The International Labour Organization (ILO), represented by Country Director Geir Tonstol, and the Ambassador of Italy, Marilina Armellin, in collaboration with AICS Islamabad, have launched a new partnership to promote just transitions and decent work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in districts affected by recent floods.
The project “Just Transitions for Men, Women, and Youth through Training and Job Creation in Sustainable Construction and Eco-Tourism” will be implemented by the ILO over a three-year period, from June 2025 to December 2027. The goal is to foster a just transition by developing skills in sustainable construction, improving occupational health and safety standards, and supporting businesses in the eco-tourism sector, especially those led by youth and women.
“This partnership is an investment in resilience,” said Tonstol. “Through skills, sustainability, and inclusive growth, we help communities recover with dignity and contribute to a greener and fairer economy.”
Ambassador Armellin reaffirmed Italy’s commitment to sustainable development in Pakistan: “We are proud to support this initiative, in line with our priorities on gender equality, climate action, and economic empowerment.”

The partnership contributes to the Government of Pakistan’s post-flood recovery strategy, supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, aligns with provincial economic recovery plans, and is in line with the Global Accelerator on Jobs and Social Protection.
